This Program has already empowered 3,500 young farmers from each LGA’s in 36 States of the country including the FCT. It been executed in Cycles, following a Revolving Model, broken down below.
Farmers are Identified and Sorted into Goat and Sheep Farmers, Rabbit Farmers (Cuniculture), and trained accordingly
Rabbit Farming (Cuniculture)
Rabbit production has gained more attention in Nigeria as a sustainable and inexpensive means of providing high-quality animal protein to supplement the deficiency arising from the dependency on plant protein for Nigerians. The NAAD is actively involved in the campaign of encouraging and training and equipping the Nigerian youth in the rabbit farming as a means of generating income for themselves and family.
After a period of 3 months 10 Rabbits will be collected from each Rabbit Farmer the collected animals will be pooled, and a new batch of Farmers will be identified, trained and given animals to nurture to maturity.
A Farmer who participates in the Cycle above for 30 months owns his animals and whatever proceeds they may give him, the Farmer can also sell his animals to NAAD or to any buyer of his choice. Using this system, our projected Farmer growth will be exponential after three cycles:
The financial benefit of this program to the farmers is immense, a farmer has at least 3 major avenues for income from a rabbit colony:
Meat: A farmer can make up to 50,000 Naira, from the Meat as it is highly nutritious and rich in protein.
Skin and Fur: A farmer can make up to 30,000 to 40,000 Naira from the hide and skin of rabbits; they are used in making clothes and sandals.
Waste Products: A farmer can make between 30,000 to 40,000 Naira from the rabbits, as the Waste Products are excellent alternatives to chemical fertilizers, being rich in Nitrogen and Phosphorous.
